Mooresville Parks & Recreation's Youth Sports Leagues depend on volunteer coaches and coaching assistants. Our community benefits greatly from the generosity of these volunteers!

For the safety of our children, all potential coaches, assistants and anyone wishing to serve as "Team Mom" or "Team Dad" in any Mooresville Parks & Recreation Sports League must complete an electronic Volunteer Application and be approved. If chosen to coach or assist they must pass a criminal background check prior to any coaching or assisting duties.

If you have been chosen to coach or assist, once your electronic application has been approved, you will be sent a link to complete a background check which must be approved before you may begin any coaching/assisting duties. This background check is valid for 3 years, and will notify of any changed within those 3 years. At that time, another background check will need approved.

Submission of an online application does not guarantee a coaching or assisting position

This position can be filled either as an internship or volunteer opportunity. 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to write stories for print media (newspapers, magazines), contact television media to attend events, and help with social media and newsletters for Special Olympics Lake Norman.

The position can be a mixture of in-person and virtual schedule once the person is settled into the role.

This volunteer opportunity is for fundraising committee with Special Olympics Lake Norman. This person will help to create opportunities and share information with their friends and family to help provide funding for the sports. The committee meets virtually once per month and will plan multiple fundraising events per year.  

Sports vary by season. 

Fall sports (August-end of November): softball, bocce, soccer, tennis, flag football, and cycling 

Winter Sports (November-February): Skiing and snowboarding

Spring Sports (January-1st week of June)- track and field, bowling, gymnastics, basketball, swimming, and volleyball

year-round sports: golf, cheerleading, powerlifting, equestrian, sailing and young athletes 

This volunteer opportunity is for coaching with Special Olympics Lake Norman. 

Sports vary by season.

Teen programming and summer camps for participants between the ages of 13-17. 

Mooresville Abilities Program is an adult day camp designed for individuals with disabilities. The program runs Monday-Thursday from 9am-2pm and hosts a variety of activities during that time. 

Volunteers within the program come to share their special talents, read a book, share life experiences and spend meaningful time with participants. For more information on the activities possible, email mwilliams@mooresvillenc.gov 

Socials, parties and dances are a big part of the therapeutic community. Our participants LOVE to be able to have fun with their friends new and familiar. 

Social Volunteers help with the planning, prep work, set up and execution of a social (or multiple socials)! Example socials include the Boo Bash, the Bunny Hop, and the Holly Jolly Christmas Party but are not limited to just these events. Socials run throughout the year.
